Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art’s Local Emerging Artists Show Submission

What is Life Without Honor?Well today is it.  I am submitting three pieces to the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art’s Local Emerging Artists Show.  One of the things I am working on for the next several weeks and months is getting visibility for my work.  So, this is a step on the journey.  By the end of the month I will also submit to a show in Arvada, which is at the end of the year.  And I want to submit to an art call for the magazine Clothe, Paper, Scissors.

So on to this afternoon’s endeavor.  The intent of FCMOMA is for local artist to enter work that “explores new media, ideas, and/or work that speaks to contemporary issues.”  Hence why I selected “Keep Your Eye on the Prize”, which is a little African American girl, collaged on top of the words from one of the great Civil Rights songs from the sixty.  She is encased in a vintage cash box.  She is really sweet.  Her image is in the banner of my website.

In total, I will submit three works.  The one shown here is called “What Is Life without Honor?” I just love this image.  Kelly Kilmer gave me his picture years ago.  He was from a collage sheet from a now closed stamp shop in Southern California.  I feel that his image shows such amazing honor for us all.  I just had to do a collage with him and make sure he was part of my submissions.  And finally I am submitting “On the Race to Craziness”.  This particular work represents taking life’s chaos and converting it into beauty.  The canvas is covered in old receipts, statistics book pages, show and plane tickets, aluminum foil, and maps from my life during 2007.   It was then covered with acrylic paints.

I hope they select one of my pieces.  But, if I didn’t submit I wouldn’t have even been considered.  Or another way to say it, is if you don’t commit to a goal, you will never achieve it.
